SUSTAINABILITY AT SATURN PETCARE
The relationship with pets enriches the lives of many people.
Every day, we at saturn petcare care for millions of dogs and cats to help them live long, healthy lives. In doing so, we act responsibly and implement numerous measures that together form a great whole.
Embedding sustainability in a company is a long-term learning process in which many employees, business partners and interest groups are involved. Each individual contribution promotes further development. Our aim is to further systematize and expand our sustainability activities. We support the UN's sustainability goals and, as a pet food producer, would like to actively contribute to the following in particular:

What moves us
CLIMATE-NEUTRAL BUSINESS
Our aim is to continuously improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the manufacture of our products. Our European production sites have been ISO 50001 certified for over ten years. We use green electricity and are developing concepts to achieve climate-neutral manufacturing processes (Scope 1 + 2) by 2030. We also count on the awareness of all our employees. Every contribution counts!
PACKAGING
Our packaging must protect our products, look appealing and be informative. We follow the principle of “as much as necessary, as little as possible”. We regularly check where we can save packaging material and improve recyclability - product safety always comes first. We implement these improvements step by step together with our suppliers and customers. All the banderoles, labels and cardboard packaging we use come from sustainable forestry (Forest Stewardship Council).
RAW MATERIAL LOSSES
Minimizing the waste of resources through production losses and overproduction is an important concern for us. In order to make good use of our high-quality pet food, such as products with a short best-before date, we coordinate sales with our customers in our own factory outlet or donate to local institutions such as animal shelters. We also work continuously to improve our processes.
HOLDING FORMS
Whether pet food with meat and animal by-products, purely plant-based or with insects - we want to continue to offer our customers a wide range of products in the future. Our demands are increasing, particularly in the area of animal welfare. We are continuously working on more sustainable recipes in order to provide our customers with innovative products that will also delight their four-legged friends.
HEALTHY PET FOOD
Our standards for good pet food are high, which is why we select our raw materials carefully to meet these high requirements. We ensure an all-round supply of wet and dry food as well as snacks. The nutritional quality of our complete foods provides all the important nutrients and building blocks needed for a long, healthy life. This is why we have repeatedly achieved top marks in independent tests for years. This is what we work for day after day.
BIODIVERSITY
A functioning environment is based on diverse ecosystems and a high level of biodiversity. We bear responsibility - for the animals and the environment that we want to preserve and protect. Our goals include purchasing certified raw materials from sustainable fisheries (MSC seal) and aquaculture (ASC seal) as well as from supply chains without deforestation.
ATTRACTIVE EMPLOYER
One group - countless career prospects. Our employer brand heristogether makes us attractive to applicants, employees and customers. Our aim is to create attractive working conditions and retain employees in the long term.
DELIVERY CHAINS
We work to procure our production materials responsibly. Respecting human rights by fulfilling clearly defined due diligence obligations is a matter of course for us. As part of heristo ag, we implement solutions to safeguard human rights in our supply chains - for example through social audits or sustainability assessments at our sites.
COMMUNICATION AND REPORTING
We see the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive as an opportunity to integrate sustainability aspects more strongly into our corporate activities. This will enable our stakeholders to better understand how we approach sustainability issues.
Value creation with ethics
Human rights declaration
As a globally active company, we are aware of our social responsibility. We are fully committed to upholding and respecting human rights along the value chain. We consider this to be fundamental to acting with integrity and responsible corporate governance. We take a holistic approach to our human rights responsibility: it encompasses not only our own sites, but also our supply chain. We want to identify and assess any human rights violations as early as possible and rectify them responsibly.
